COFFEE REDUCES RISK OF CANCER Drinking coffee could reduce the risk of contracting skin cancer by more than a third. Scientists believe caffeine stops cells in the body from dividing and acts as an antioxidant so drinking a daily cup could ward off the disease.
AIRLINE TO OFFER CARBON OFFSET SCHEME Virgin Atlantic will not only be selling duty free cigarettes and alcohol, now passengers can buy carbon offsets as well, reports the Times. Thanks to global warming and carbon emission scares, the airline is attempting to make travellers feel obliged to pay to offset the emissions from their journey. Other airlines offer people the option of paying for carbon offsets via their websites but Virgin are the first to offer on flights, having joined forces with myclimate, a Swiss-based charity promoting sustainable energy projects.
MOTHER’S STRIPPER PLANS FOR SON BACKFIRE A 16-year-old boy got a birthday surprise from his mother that he will never forget when a stripper in a gorilla outfit arrived at his school, reports the Times. Pre-arranged with his teacher, the mother of the boy at Arnold High School in Nottingham was shocked to hear that she got more than she bargained for from the gorilla. The stripper undressed to her bra and panties to a Britney Spears soundtrack, the teacher only intervening when the stripper began to whip the student 16 times to mark his birthday, telling him he had been a "very naughty boy".
NASA DISCOVERS NEW PLANET NASA claims to have found a fifth planet orbiting a star outside our solar system, reports Reuters. The discovery has led scientists to believe that there are more solar systems like ours out there, especially since the planet, much bigger than earth, is suspected to be a similar distance away from its sun, a star known as 55 Cancri. The planet was discovered after 18 years of research and study of the 55 Cancri's orbit.
RADIOHEAD'S ALBUM EXPERIMENT BACKFIRES Radiohead will be disappointed that fans who, when offered the chance to decide how much they wanted to pay to download their new album, decided to take it for free. The band surprised the music industry last month by saying they were going to let fans determine the price of their seventh album but have found that one in three, approximately 1.2 million people, paid nothing for In Rainbows, says the Telegraph. Sorry i m one of them. Shame on me..
BATMAN KO'D BY HONG KONG'S MURKY WATERS He may be one of the world’s toughest superheroes, but it appears the bacteria-infested waters surrounding Hong Kong are too much for the caped crusader. The Guardian reports that producers have had to veto a scene in the upcoming sequel, The Dark Knight, where actor Christian Bale jumps from a plane into the sea between Hong Kong island and Kowloon because a water sample revealed it contains such high levels of life-threatening bacteria. Thats very shameful Hong Kong,get ur act together and have our harbour clean up...
