Returning to our roots: Scientists claim they will grow tree-homes in a decade

Humans may one day be returning to the forests to live in ecological homes grown from tree roots.
Scientists from the U.S and Israel have proposed building the ingenious 'tree-homes' in cities and towns as a way of saving the planet.
Using the advanced techniques of airoponics, where plants are grown without soil, the green-fingered researchers are confident the first prototype home could be ready in just ten years.
Plantware, the organisation behind the technology, said they have already enjoyed success creating bus-shelters, park benches and traffic lights from their unique growing techniques.
Each home would be constructed from actual tree roots to any design specification and come equipped with a host of eco-friendly features such as solar panels and wind harvesting fans.
The homes designed by researchers at Tel Aviv University and a branch of America's M.I.T, would draw their power from clean energy sources and even convert human waste into valuable nutrients for the living trees.
It is hoped that by re-connecting with our organic roots, pollution and carbon footprints could become a thing of the past.
'The concept behind Plantware stems from my ground breaking research at the University of Tel Aviv which yielded incredible results with tree roots that do not harden and become rigid but remain supple without breaking when they bend,' Plantware chief Gordon Glaze said.
'The key to my discovery was my research in the area of airoponics, which is like hydroponics where plant life is grown without soil.'
Mr Glaze, 38, together with his two partners Yael Stav, 35 and Yaniv Naftaly, 35 have spent the past ten years developing and perfecting the science of airoponics to the stage where Gordon believes that real life 'tree-house' could be possible within ten years.
'At a cellular level we can tell the tree how to grow to a template. This means that we can now mass produce roots and trees in an industrial building level, like steel girders.
'We can create a living building material now that enables you to cast trees like they are cement,' Glaze said.
Together with scientists at M.I.T, they have come up with designs that look like something out of Star Trek, but which technology has now made possible.
'Our ultimate aim is to build a house out of our trees from scratch There are an incredible number of benefits that come with our tree homes. For a start all heating bills will be reduced, because in the winter, when the deciduous trees leaves fall away, homes will have more heat.
'And in the summer, the leaves will provide not only shade but a cooling effect will come from the leaves,' he said.
Mr Glaze said they would be ecologically responsible by matching tree-homes to their environment. So British tree-dwellers would live in sturdy oak or willow homes and those in California could have giant American redwood pads.
Unfortunately Mr Glaze said at first the tree homes would prove to be prohibitively expensive to all but a few committed environmentalists.
Good idea..i totally support it

“Andy Warhol and artist ‘who never existed’”

Here is an interesting article surrounding the accusations that an artist believed to have worked alongside Andy Warhol may not have existed causing the postponement of a high profile auction.
Works by Pietro Psaier have appeared at sales all over the world, including several held by Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Bonhams, attracting prices of up to £14,000. They were given added kudos by the claim that Psaier worked in Warhol’s studio, the Factory, and that the pair were friends who collaborated on several pieces.
However, officials at the Andy Warhol Foundation have come forward to say they have never heard of Psaier, and suggested that the whole relationship may have been a hoax. The auctioneer John Nicholson, of Fernhurst, Surrey, the leading Psaier dealer, is trying to prove his existence and has even hired a researcher. In the meantime, he has been forced to delay the latest sale of Psaier’s work, which had been scheduled for tomorrow.
The artist is said to have been born in Italy and lived a nomadic life before he was killed by the tsunami in Sri Lanka in 2004, although his body has never been recovered. There are also few official documents and witnesses to help prove the story. However, the main supplier of Psaier’s works, Peter Psaier, who claims to be the artist’s son, has sent a signed notarised statement to Mr Nicholson, confirming who he is. A psychiatrist in Madrid has said he treated Psaier, whom he described as “an accomplished artist” who had a working relationship with Warhol.

Damien Hirst sale breaks art auction record, raking in £70.5 million in its first day

Fifty-four lots went under the hammer, raising more than the conservative pre-sale estimate of £65 million for the entire two-day event.
Hirst is selling 223 new works directly through Sotheby's in the "Beautiful Inside My Head Forever" sale, saving millions by cutting out dealers' commission. The upper estimate for the whole event is £98 million.
His gamble, which was watched with great interest by fellow artists, paid off in spectacular style.
Hirst has exceeded the previous record for an auction of works by one artist, set in 1993 by Picasso. That sale, which had 88 lots, totalled $20 million (£11.29 million).
The Golden Calf, a bull preserved in formaldehyde, adorned with hooves, a disk above its head and horns made of 18-carat gold, broke the world record for the sale of a Hirst at auction, going for £10.3 million.
However, the hammer price for The Golden Calf of £9.2 million – before Sotheby's buyer's premium was applied – was on the low side of the £8-12 million pre-sales estimate.
Nonetheless, the market appeared strong as some of the richest art collectors in the world converged on London's New Bond Street to feast on Hirst's works.
Hirst, 43, who is criticised by some for using an army of assistants to help him create his work, has called the auction a "mini retrospective" and "probably the most amazing show I've put on".
Another major sale - selling for more than 50 per cent above its pre-sale estimate, was a shark in formaldehyde, called The Kingdom. It sold for £9.6 million including the buyer's premium.
Fragments Of Paradise, made from stainless steel, glass and manufactured diamonds, was estimated at £1-1.5 million, but sold for more than three times that - just under £5.2 million.
The auction will resume at 11am today (TUES), with a second session at 2.30pm, and is estimated to sell for £25.2-£36.2 million.

Arctic Monkeys third album in the makin???

The Arctic Monkeys are to get a "kick up the arse" from Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme when he takes over production duties for them next month.

They will abandon their native Sheffield and head for Rancho De La Luna studios in Joshua Tree, California, Homme's favourite studio where he has produced his own outfits QOTSA and Eagles Of Death Metal, as well as Mark Lanegan and PJ Harvey.

Homme explained: "I think they just want to experience something that's opposite to what they're used to [in the UK] and it's a good place to go to ... make some music for the sake of making music."

The sessions could end up as Arctic Monkey's album number three, which they are currently working on. Drummer Matt Helders recently commented, "We're all into Queens Of The Stone Age. When we got to play with them and see them live [in Texas last year] it gave us a kick up the arse ... They show you can still have top tunes and loud, heavy songs, too. It's a lot more fun playing loud music - simple as that."

Um.. Excited..Can't wait

My New Job

Today is my third day at my new job..
So far so gd , m enjoying myself, i know i will have a fun time workin here, everyone seen very nice.
Although this job will not be easy but its something i enjoy , so i will get by..
Yesterday i was at a talk by Landmark Forum , very interesting , its about how u can do better in life, the cover of the intro thing they hand out ( not very gd english i know but i dont care..) it said Of course, everyone wants an extraordinary life. The Question is, what does it take to have an extraordinary life every single day? sound scary right ? well to be frank after the meetin , i do feel i did get something out of it, and alot of the stuff they said do make sense..
Like how we always use our past to judge our future, what they mean by that is, sometime we don;t do something is becoz of our past experience, so it limit us to take a step out of our comfort zone..dont know if that make any sense , i guess u will have to be there to understand..as i m not the best people to express myself , let alone express what i have learn , but i have to thanks Sergio for takin me , it really was n eye opening experience. I do think everyone can take something from it, no matter if u r successful or not..
anywho better get on with some work...Che Figo ( That's Hot in Italian )
